Sudanese authorities use arbitrary arrests and summary trials to frustrate Human Rights Defenders and Activists

African Center for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) condemns the continued use of arbitrary arrests and incommunicado detention of Sudanese citizens by the security bodies amidst the ongoing conflict.

Sudan: Seven human rights defenders and activists arrested, detained, and allegedly tortured by the SAF Military Intelligence Unit in the Blue Nile Region

ACJPS condemns the continued targeting of human rights defenders for their work in Sudan. ACJPS has documented several incidents where seven (07) human rights defenders/activists were arbitrarily arrested detained and allegedly tortured by the SAF Military Intelligence (MI) Unit in Blue Nile region. We urge the Sudanese Army to desist from the repression of human rights defenders and allow them to exercise their rights to freedom of expression and association as guaranteed under Sudan's Constitution and international treaties ratified by Sudan.

Central Darfur: Deep concern for the safety and wellbeing of four Sudanese including HRDs detained in Zalingi city

The African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) expresses its utmost concern over the physical safety and wellbeing of four Sudanese citizens including three human rights defenders detained by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). They were detained between 10th October and 6th November 2023 and have remained in RSF detention in Zalingi city, Central Darfur to date.
