The African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) warmly welcomes the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) resolute decision to establish a Joint Fact-Finding Mission to probe the dire human rights situation in Sudan. This landmark move is a crucial step towards ensuring accountability for the grave atrocities committed against the Sudanese people.
ACJPS, a steadfast advocate for justice in Sudan, has tirelessly documented and exposed the ongoing crisis. The establishment of this fact-finding mission is a testament to the collective efforts of civil society and the growing international recognition of the urgent need for accountability.
We commend the ACHPR for its leadership and unwavering commitment to addressing the immense suffering of the Sudanese people. We urge both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to unequivocally cooperate with the Commission and grant the fact-finding mission unrestricted access to all relevant areas and individuals.
“We commend the ACHPR for its leadership and unwavering commitment to addressing the immense suffering of the Sudanese people.”
To ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response, we urge the ACHPR and the UN Fact-Finding Mission to collaborate closely. By aligning their efforts, they can maximize their impact and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the situation.
ACJPS calls upon the international community and the African Union to provide unwavering support to the Commission in fulfilling this critical mandate. The findings of the fact-finding mission must serve as a catalyst for concrete actions, including the prosecution of those responsible for these heinous crimes.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to working alongside the ACHPR and other partners to achieve justice for the victims of the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
